Loose, oversized clothing ideas and styling tips
The oversized shirt trend has been inspired by the effortless style of the 1990s and has a cool, relaxed vibe.
“We’re seeing a return of ‘90s trends in general, and we really love to see the reemergence of hugely oversized pieces—they can be so fun to play with,” says stylist Zadrian Smith who currently dresses various stars.
Oversized shirts are versatile and can be dressed up or down, making them suitable for different occasions and work on all body types. They can be worn as a light cover-up or buttoned up to complement different styles of pants.

The oversized shirt can worn en lieu of a blazer or cardigans, over a top, or a dress or a bikini. Pair it with different types of pants, skirts, and shoes to create a variety of looks. It can also be layered with other pieces of clothing to add depth to an outfit. The oversized shirt trend is a timeless and stylish option that can be incorporated into any wardrobe.

Take fit into consideration when experimenting with oversized clothing. Many fashion influencers and celebrities have adopted the small-top, big-pant approach or vice versa, to balance out the proportions and avoid looking overwhelmed by the baggy silhouettes. It's better to have one oversized voluminous statement piece in an outfit, rather than several.

Stylists often advise clients to focus on one oversized element in an outfit, such as a giant tote bag or a baggy jean, but not to do volume everywhere with all pieces. This can help create a sense of balance and structure in the outfit.
An example of this is styling a pair of baggy jorts with a tighter-fitting silk button-up top and chunky lug-sole sandals, which gives the roomy look some much-needed structure. This can be a good way to keep the spacey clothing trend in check and avoid looking too bulky.
