To ensure your wool jumper stays in top condition and continues to look fabulous, follow these simple washing and care tips.
- 2/3 caps of ammonia (optional)*
- Marseille soap (optional, depending on stains)
- White vinegar
- A bucket or basin
1. Prepare the Solution:
Fill a bucket with water
Add 2/3 caps of ammonia to the water. This helps in cleaning and maintaining the wool's natural properties.
2. Treat Stains (if needed):
If your wool jumper has specific stains, try to rub a small amount of Marseille soap on the affected areas. Marseille soap is known for its gentle yet effective stain-fighting properties.
3. Wash the Jumper:
Submerge your wool jumper in the ammonia solution. Avoid vigorous scrubbing, as wool is delicate and can be damaged by rough treatment.
4. Rinse with Vinegar:
After washing, rinse the jumper with water. To add a touch of shine and help maintain the wool's softness, add a splash of white vinegar to the rinse water.
Vinegar helps to remove any remaining soap residue and restore the wool's natural sheen.
5. Avoid Wringing:
Never wring out your wool jumper, as this can distort its shape and texture. Instead, gently press the excess water against the side of the bucket.
6. Dry Properly:
Lay the jumper flat on a clean, dry towel. Roll it up in the towel to press out additional water. This technique helps maintain the jumper’s shape while removing excess moisture.
Unroll the towel and lay the jumper flat on another dry towel or a drying rack.
*Ammonia is an optional, if you don't have it you can just use vinager.
Store Properly: Store your wool jumper in a cool, dry place. Avoid hanging it, as this can stretch the fabric. Instead, fold it neatly. It's better if you place it in a bag.
Avoid Frequent Washing: Wool jumpers resist odours and stay fresh longer than other fabrics. Wash them only when necessary to maintain their quality.
Use a Wool Detergent: Consider using a detergent specifically designed for wool to keep the fibers soft and supple.
